NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2026: PSKT RETURNS AS HOST FOR 4TH EASTERN REGION EDITION

Interactive digital displays across each science gallery at the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre serve as a major attraction, offering visitors a unique hands-on experience throughout the National Science Week 2026 East Zone roadshow.

KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu will once again take centre stage in advancing science and technology awareness as Pusat Sains & Kreativiti Terengganu (PSKT) hosts the Eastern Region edition of Minggu Sains Negara 2026 from 18 to 20 July.

The national programme serves as a strategic platform to inspire greater interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), while expanding access to science education among communities, particularly young people in rural areas across the East Coast states.

Since its introduction, Minggu Sains Negara has played an important role in connecting communities with the latest developments in science, innovation and technology through interactive learning experiences.

PSKT Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Huzairil Nizam Ibrahim, said the fourth consecutive hosting of the programme at PSKT reflects the continued confidence from various stakeholders in the centre’s role as a community science education hub.

He said the programme has consistently received encouraging response from students, parents and the local community, including visitors from neighbouring states who are keen to experience STEM learning in a more engaging and interactive environment.

“Beyond being a platform for knowledge sharing, this programme allows visitors to explore, experience and understand science concepts in a more enjoyable and meaningful way.

“Admission throughout the three-day event is free, ensuring wider access to science education regardless of background,” he said.

Mohd Huzairil added that the strong collaboration between PSKT, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), and related agencies remains a key factor in the success of the programme, in line with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN) introduced in 2013.

The life-sized Spinosaurus skeleton replica remains a popular photo spot for visitors at the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre.
The I-Wonder Gallery is one of nine science galleries that frequently attracts young visitors eager to explore science, featuring a wide range of real demonstration equipment that provides a distinctive and immersive experience for every visitor.

Among the highlights of this year’s programme is the “Nuclear for the People” initiative by the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, scheduled on 19 July at the PSKT Auditorium, aimed at enhancing public understanding of nuclear technology and its applications in daily life.

The science musical competition involving schools from across the Eastern Region is also expected to be one of the main attractions, showcasing students’ creativity in applying STEM elements through performing arts.

Minggu Sains Negara 2026 will feature more than 10 main activities alongside various family-friendly edutainment programmes, with the aim of nurturing greater interest in STEM and inspiring the younger generation to pursue opportunities in science and technology.
