KUALA TERENGGANU – As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the global landscape, access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education remains crucial in preparing future generations to navigate an increasingly technology-driven world.
For more than two decades, the Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) has played an important role in promoting science literacy and expanding STEM exposure, with the centre now marking its 21st year since beginning operations in 2005.
Located in the East Coast region, PSKT continues to serve as a platform to bring science education closer to communities, including those in rural areas, by providing opportunities for students and the public to experience STEM through interactive learning approaches.
Terengganu State Secretary Dato’ Mohd Azmi Mohamad Daham said PSKT remains an important component in strengthening the state’s science, technology and innovation ecosystem, in line with the objectives of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN).
“PSKT remains relevant for Terengganu in strengthening the framework and direction of the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN), while supporting the advancement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the current wave of artificial intelligence.
“It not only provides opportunities and exposure to the people of Terengganu, but also to those from other states, as it is the only dedicated science centre facility on the East Coast.
“Terengganu will continue to support PSKT and similar initiatives as part of efforts to empower the next generation that will drive the nation forward,” he said after officiating the East Coast Zone of National Science Week 2026 here.
He said facilities such as PSKT provide valuable opportunities for young people to explore STEM fields through direct experiences, helping to nurture curiosity, creativity and innovation from an early stage.
PSKT continues its role as the host venue for National Science Week 2026 East Coast Zone for the fourth consecutive year, with this year’s edition adopting a carnival concept featuring 35 participating agencies.
The three-day programme showcases various interactive exhibitions, educational activities and science-related initiatives aimed at encouraging greater public participation in STEM.
Among the featured programmes is the “Nuclear for the People” initiative by the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, which highlights the role of nuclear technology and its applications in areas including healthcare, agriculture and industry.
National Science Week 2026 East Coast Zone, held from July 18 to July 20, is an annual programme under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), aimed at strengthening public appreciation and understanding of science, technology and innovation.
