UC TATI RHINOS RUGBY CLUB BUILD CHARACTER OFF THE FIELD AHEAD OF SUKIPT

Players of UC TATI Rhino Rugby Club together with team management join hands in a community service program to clean Bukit Teruna Cemetery, Kemaman, Terengganu.

KEMAMAN – UC TATI Rhino Rugby Club has launched its 2026 season on a meaningful note, placing community service at the forefront of its preparations as part of an effort to strengthen character development, teamwork and leadership among its players.

The initiative, which involved volunteer work at a local cemetery, brought together members of the club, all of whom are students of a higher education institution based in Kemaman, Terengganu.

Beyond its social impact, the programme also served as a platform to foster stronger relationships and communication among stakeholders, including players, club officials and the university’s student affairs management, following the commencement of the new academic semester in April.

Programme director Ammar Ashraf described the activity as an ideal way to begin both the rugby season and a new semester, highlighting the club’s commitment to inclusivity and camaraderie.

The community service initiative adds value by strengthening the character and identity of UC TATI Rhino Rugby players.

“This is a positive start for the rugby club and for all of us as students entering a new semester. We do not differentiate our members based on seniority, background or status. In fact, some of our members have never played rugby before, but we welcome anyone interested in learning and becoming part of the club. Activities such as cemetery clean-up work and other community service programmes reflect the spirit of togetherness that we are trying to build,” said Ammar, a second-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Network Security) student at TATI University College.

He added that the cemetery clean-up programme was organised in collaboration with the Kemaman District Youth and Sports Office, a key community stakeholder that supports youth and volunteer-based initiatives in the district.

The club, which currently has 45 members comprising players and management personnel, is now turning its attention to preparations for the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Games (SUKIPT 2026), scheduled to take place at the University of Malaya this August.
