KUALA TERENGGANU – Established as a public institution focused on science education and outreach among communities in the East Coast, Pusat Sains & Kreativiti Terengganu (PSKT) is now gaining recognition as a player in the local tourism industry after being named Best STEM Edutainment Centre at the 2026 Tourism Industry Awards organised by the Malaysia International Tourism Development Association (MiTDA) last Sunday.
The recognition is expected to give PSKT a stronger foothold in the tourism sector while contributing to efforts under the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, which is currently in full swing.
“The hard work over the years, where visitor numbers have always been one of the benchmarks for PSKT, has helped this public institution remain relevant despite the many options and platforms now available to the public in science education.
“Certainly, this award adds value and recognition to PSKT, as our responsibility is no longer limited to science education and outreach. We are now recognised as one of the players in the tourism industry, and this is something that can be taken to a higher level,” said PSKT chief executive officer Mohd Huzairil Nizam Ibrahim, who has held the position since 2022.

Meanwhile, the 2026 National Science Week East Zone, hosted by PSKT for the fourth consecutive year in July, recorded its highest attendance in the four-year run of the programme organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
The three-day science carnival drew a total of 20,419 visitors, including those from outside Terengganu and overseas, surpassing the initial target of 15,000 visitors.
PSKT was launched in March 2005 and initially operated at the Terengganu Trade Centre (TTC), before moving to Kampung Laut, Kuala Terengganu, where it began full-scale operations at its own facility in April 2016.
