KUALA TERENGGANU — After eight years of building a tennis community in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, Proz United have finally taken their game beyond the state, making their debut at the 2026 Terengganu Open Tennis Championship.
The club, formed by a group of tennis enthusiasts, chose Terengganu as its first destination outside Melaka as part of efforts to broaden its competitive exposure and give its players the chance to face opponents from different states.
Team captain Jailani Nordin, 50, said the long journey to the east coast had not dampened the team’s enthusiasm, with seven players eager to test themselves against stronger opposition.

“Age is not a barrier. Although we may not be among the favourites for this championship, we are still excited to be here and compete in our first tournament tour since the club was established.
“Of course, every team wants to finish on the podium, and we are no different. However, our initial target is to finish among the top five teams in this championship,” he said.
Jailani said Proz United were fielding seven players across the three team categories, including the Over-50 event, allowing members to gain competitive experience while testing their ability against players from outside Melaka.

He said the championship also offered an opportunity for the club to establish new connections with players and teams from other states after spending most of its eight-year journey competing in tournaments around Melaka.
The two-day championship, which began on Oct 2, features the Men’s Open, Over-40 and Over-50 categories, with cash prizes offered to the winners of each event.
For Proz United, the tournament represents more than a competition, marking its first step towards expanding its presence in the domestic tennis circuit and seeking more opportunities to compete outside Melaka.
