DUNGUN<\/strong> \u2013 The Dungun Sarong Fun Run continues to prove that community-based sporting events can deliver a broader impact, with the fourth edition introducing various initiatives that directly benefit the local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than just a five-kilometre run, the programme held at Taman Tasik Sura also offered free health screenings and a range of public services, which have previously been inaccessible to segments of the rural population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to race director Amran Abdullah, the enhancements were introduced after organisers observed a significant number of elderly participants in previous editions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the situation created an opportunity for organisers to play a bigger role in raising awareness on the importance of healthcare among the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPreviously, this run was simply to give rural communities the opportunity to experience such an event without having to travel to major cities. For this edition, in collaboration with Klinik Nova, we provided free health screenings and other services, particularly through direct information sharing to those \u0909\u092a\u0938\u094d\u0925\u093f\u0924.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFollowing several recent incidents of health-related issues at sporting events, at the very least, these early screenings can help participants understand their individual health status,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free health screenings added value to the 4th edition of the Dungun Sarong Fun Run, which successfully drew 1,200 participants from across all age groups.<\/i><\/b><\/center><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In addition to health screenings, the involvement of several agencies such as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS Dungun), the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (JPAM), and other service entities also saw services being offered that may have been previously limited due to distance for rural communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several side activities were also held, targeting family participation, including a colouring contest, a children\u2019s costume competition and a lucky draw, which drew strong interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants and visitors generally responded positively to the initiative, noting that the event goes beyond being merely a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDistance and time are often barriers for those of us living far from Dungun town to undergo health check-ups. I hope this event will continue in the coming years, not just for me but for everyone who attended with their families,\u201d said Zamri Ghani, who travelled nearly 80km from Bukit Besi, Dungun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
